The Economics of Eating

I’m not perfect. People don’t look at me and say “he’s a picture of health.” However, in my defense I must say there are people eat and live healthy lives and look worse for wear.

I’m going to say one word here: elitism.

Dictionary.com definition of elitism (pertinent definitions):

1. consciousness of or pride in belonging to a select or favored group.

2. The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.

Democrats accuse Republicans about this when it comes to finances, and vice versa when it comes to education. Read more »

Tuesday’s Aftermath

It took me almost two days to process the news: Brittney Spears has filed for divorce.

And, K-Fed now was sole custody of the two children.

Oh, yeah, and the Democrats won both the House and the Senate. But that’s just small change, right?

Admittedly, Tuesday night was one where it was a slow process to enjoy. I was up late. I was cautious in feeling good and confident about the televised results. I kept expecting to have someone come wake me up only to find that I had been drugged and my mouth covered with duct tape only for believing in social justice and human rights. Small, meaningless issues to some people. Not me. Read more »

Pondering Sleep

Today, I have been pondering sleep in the back of my brain. This isn’t because I have desired to sleep (though, that’s always a good thing. right? To sleep?)

The pondering has itched. I’ve scratched. A preoccupation.

I don’t remember the last dream I had. Perhaps, I do but only vaguely. This isn’t unfamiliar territory since most don’t remember their dreams, but I like to delve into vivid imaginations not for meaning but for adventures . On the walls of my office are posters of vivid worlds. Jagged, angular, and expressive faces next to names—some famous and some which will be.

At home, more posters of inspiration. I wonder what their dreams were like?

Tomorrow, we must act. We must wake up from the coma we’ve been forced into and act.

We cannot afford to wait longer and dream more. We have the power to create reality and destiny.

Get out and vote, dammit. Open your eyes and live.

Perhaps, that’s why I’ve been thinking about sleep. Because I’ve found out that I’ve been lacking it and haven’t been living.

Targeted Advertising.

Sometimes I find the Most Viewed Photos on Yahoo quite intriguing:

Alcohol is more dangerous than…

CAPTION: This paid political advertisement provided by the Alcohol-Marijuana Equalization Initiative Committee, SAFER Colorado, shows Vice President Dick Cheney. The group that got a referendum on the state ballot legalizing marijuana ran ads in newspapers Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006 targeting President Bush for allegedly challenging his father to fight while drunk and Cheney for allegedly shooting a friend after drinking. Apparently the ads are targeting both Bush and Cheney.
